Hokusai Wall Mounted Designer Acoustic Panel | 680 × 1200mm | NRC 0.75 | Class C

The Advanced Acoustics Hokusai Wall Mounted Designer Acoustic Panel is a large-format shaped acoustic panel from the Advanced Acoustics Designer Range. Inspired by the work of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, the panel's profile is designed to create a bold visual statement on the wall while delivering effective mid and high frequency absorption. The panel consists of a 31mm open-cell acoustic foam core mounted on a rigid backing board, wrapped in a 100% recycled open-weave polyester cloth available in 31 colours.

The Hokusai measures 680 × 1200mm, providing 0.81m² of absorption per panel. The large format and distinctive silhouette make it suited to feature walls, reception areas, and open-plan environments where acoustic treatment is required alongside a strong visual element. The 31mm foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), providing effective absorption of mid and high frequencies — appropriate for controlling speech-frequency reverberation in office and commercial environments.

Applications

  • Feature walls and reception areas. The Hokusai's large format and distinctive profile make it suited to feature wall installations where acoustic treatment is required alongside a strong visual element. A single panel or a composed arrangement of panels creates an immediate focal point while delivering meaningful absorption across the wall surface.
  • Open-plan offices — reverberation and echo control. Install on walls to reduce reverberation time and improve speech intelligibility. The Hokusai's 0.81m² coverage per panel makes it an efficient format for treating large wall areas with fewer panels, while the shaped profile adds visual interest to the installation.
  • Meeting rooms and conference spaces. The large format is suited to meeting rooms and boardrooms where a single panel or small arrangement can provide the required absorption coverage without requiring a full grid installation. The shaped silhouette integrates naturally into designed interior schemes.
  • Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. The Hokusai provides effective absorption of speech frequencies in educational environments, improving acoustic conditions for learning. The distinctive design is well suited to educational spaces where visual engagement is valued alongside acoustic performance.
  • Modular arrangements. Multiple Hokusai panels can be arranged in composed groupings across a wall surface, creating varied visual compositions while achieving the required total absorption area. The large format reduces the number of panels required compared to smaller designer formats.

Product Benefits

  • NRC 0.75 — effective mid and high frequency absorption. The 31mm foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), with strong absorption from 500Hz upward: 0.65 at 500Hz, 0.94 at 1000Hz, 1.13 at 2000Hz, and 0.99 at 4000Hz. This frequency profile makes the Hokusai effective for controlling speech-frequency reverberation in office and commercial environments. Low-frequency absorption is more limited (0.30 at 250Hz).
  • Class '0' fire-rated construction — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for wall-mounted acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings.
  • 100% recycled open-weave polyester cloth — 31 colour options. The open-weave polyester cloth is produced from 100% recycled fibre, maintaining full acoustic transparency while providing a durable, abrasion-resistant surface finish. Available in 31 colours — download the swatch card for the full range.
  • Mirror plate fixing — discreet and secure. Supplied with mirror plate fixing hardware for a flush, secure wall mount. The discreet fixing method keeps the panel face clean and uninterrupted, maintaining the visual integrity of the design.
  • Large format — 0.81m² coverage per panel. At 680 × 1200mm, the Hokusai is one of the largest panels in the Designer Range, providing significant absorption coverage per fixing point and making it an efficient choice for treating large wall areas.
  • Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All Designer Range panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.

Please note: All Designer Range panels are made to order with a 2–3 week lead time.

Installation

Mark the fixing position on the wall using the panel dimensions as a guide. Ensure fixing positions are located on solid wall structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings.

For mirror plate fixing: screw the mirror plate to the wall at the marked position using appropriate fixings for the wall construction, and hang the panel on the mirror plate. Check that the panel hangs level before finalising the fixing position.

For multi-panel arrangements, use a spirit level and spacers to ensure consistent alignment and spacing between panels. Mark all fixing positions before installing any panels to ensure the composition is correctly set out on the wall.
