East London Liquor Cask 457 Tasting Notes

Without water

Appearance: A rich dark umber, with autumnal rusty tones.

Nose: Earthy umami notes give way to prominent rich stewed pears and apples, marzipan and the unmissable characteristics of a velvety red wine.

Palate: There is a confident sweetness of figs and caramelised bananas.

Finish: Whilst the finish is a short one, it has cereal characteristics and a pleasant lingering sweetness of fresh plums.

With water

Appearance: An appealing light russet colour.

Nose: The bitter almond and sweet marzipan notes are more pronounced with the addition of water.

Palate: The flavours of banana and confectioners’ custard are opened up and there is a hint of mango.

Finish: An elegant finish leaving a lingering of creamy custard.

About The Stratford Lyon

When John de Stratford surveyed his lands 600 years ago and came across a huge pair of antlers in the ground, he could never have imagined what he was about to uncover.

Hidden beneath the earth for centuries, until dragged into the light in medieval times, was this King of beasts, a giant lion, blood-red in hue, with a crown of mighty antlers on its brow.

A battle of wits ensured, but de Stratford calmed the beast, which remained loyal to its adopted kin ever thereafter, appearing in the shadows to share joy in festive times and comfort in times of sorrow.

Unexpected, surprising, unpredictable.

Savour the fire of this powerful English beast, tamed just enough to make it excellent company.
